Motto
Our school motto is “Learning for Life”, and we strive to achieve the following (ideals):

  • We are a Christian school, and our ideology finds its roots in the Reformation.
  • We strive for excellence.
  • We pay attention to the individual student.
  • We provide a safe environment.
  • We contribute to the development of young Christians.

We are a Christian school
We find our roots in the Reformation and particularly in the teachings of John Calvin. The confess that the Bible is the Word of God, which has ultimate authority over our lives. Being a Christian is evident in how we teach, in how we treat each other and the atmosphere in the school. We expect that our students’ lives are based on the same principles. Before a child is admitted to Gomarus College, his/her parents are interviewed. We require active support the Christian views of the school.

We strive for excellence
The various locations of Gomarus College all strive to offer excellent education. Excellence does not only mean we strive for a higher number of graduates and a positive inspection report, but more importantly we address the needs and capacity of each student. Within the broad range of levels (five) in our schools, we try to find the most suitable place for each student to develop their God-given talents.

We pay attention to the individual student
By showing the students that we pay attention to them and their needs, as well as to our “neighbour” near and far, we want to instil in them an awareness that God created every person as a unique individual, and  therefore, we treat each other with respect and honour. Further, we pay attention to the society and the world we live in. We expose our students to others via excursions, guests who visit and/or give lessons and through their involvement in placements outside of the school. We encourage their attention for people beyond our borders whom we may meet via contact with schools and other organisations abroad. Finally, we stimulate our students to be aware of their fellow-man and to provide help and attention where-ever it is needed. Via the web-sites of the various locations, fund-raising activities organized by and for the studentscan be found.

We provide a safe environment.
At every location of our school we strive to provide an atmosphere wherein the students and staff feel safe and at home. To ensure this, we have clear rules for behaviour within and outside of the classroom.

We contribute to the development of young Christians
We ask the parents to comply with the views of the school because we believe our teaching is an extension of the upbringing in the home and help the students develop into responsible Christian adults. We strive to make the student aware of his/her place and responsibility in society.

Each school day is started and ended with Bible devotions and prayer. Within the lessons as well as in the school as a whole, we pay attention to Christian attitudes and life style. Each location of the school has its own style and manner of carrying out this aspect. This may be through moments of prayer, singing together, special days, attention for how to carry out your Christian character within a work placement, and how the Christian celebrations are held. Whatever style or form may be chosen, the school recognizes that each child is a unique creation who has been entrusted to the care of the school during some of the most crucial years of their lives. At Gomarus College one learns for Life.
